The Journey
Far North Queensland is where the continent's two greatest natural assets converge: the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest share a coastline, forming an ecosystem found nowhere else on earth. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We begin in Cairns, where the reef is accessible by catamaran within two hours, and the Daintree begins at Port Douglas. From Cairns, we move south to the Whitsundays, 74 tropical islands accessible via Hamilton Island, the only island with a commercial airport. The Reef View Hotel occupies the best position; Whitehaven Beach is a day cruise away. For those who want more, Melbourne adds a completely different register: the Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island's penguin colony, the MCG, and two free days in one of the world's most liveable cities.

Moore Reef - Great Barrier Reef (from Cairns)
54km offshore via Sunlover catamaran. 4 hours at the pontoon: snorkelling, the only waterslide on the Great Barrier Reef, glass-bottom boat, semi-submersible, fish feeding, underwater observatory. Buffet lunch, full bar. Depart 10am, back 5:30pm.
Hardy Reef - Great Barrier Reef (from Hamilton Island)
Reefworld pontoon moored 39 nautical miles offshore. 4 hours with snorkelling, semi-submarine, underwater observatory, meals morning tea through afternoon tea. Optional guided snorkelling safaris and scuba diving.
Daintree Forest & Cape Tribulation
180-million-year-old rainforest, UNESCO World Heritage Site, meeting the Great Barrier Reef at the water's edge - the only place on earth where two World Heritage sites share a shoreline.
Whitehaven Beach & Hill Inlet
98% pure silica sand running 7km along Whitsunday Island. Hill Inlet Lookout frames turquoise tidal flats swirling through white sand. Guided walk follows the path of the Ngaro people; beach BBQ lunch follows.
Kuranda: Skyrail & Scenic Railway
Skyrail Gondola covers 7.5km of World Heritage rainforest canopy; Kuranda Scenic Railway descends through hand-carved tunnels built by 1,500 workers in the 1880s.
Great Ocean Road, Victoria
243km of limestone cliffs, surf beaches, Southern Ocean horizon. The Twelve Apostles, the Otway rainforest, the surf towns of Lorne and Apollo Bay.
Phillip Island Penguin Parade
Every evening at dusk, the world's smallest penguins (33cm) emerge from the surf at Summerland Beach and waddle to their burrows. One of the most reliably delightful wildlife experiences on earth.

Common Questions
What is the difference between Moore Reef and Hardy Reef?+
Both are Outer Great Barrier Reef experiences accessed from different bases. Moore Reef is the Cairns day out with a large pontoon and the famous waterslide. Hardy Reef is the Whitsundays experience, more remote and less trafficked. We recommend both when the itinerary allows.
Is Hamilton Island worth the logistics?+
Yes, and the logistics are simpler than they appear. The coach-ferry-shuttle sequence takes under two hours from landing. Whitehaven Beach alone justifies the effort.
Can the Cairns and Whitsundays package be done without Melbourne?+
Absolutely, this is our most popular standalone Queensland itinerary. Melbourne can be added as a separate chapter or separate journey.
Is Whitehaven Beach physically demanding?+
The Chill & Grill tour includes a moderate-fitness bushwalk to Hill Inlet Lookout with uneven terrain. The beach itself is fully accessible; the BBQ lunch is at the flat southern end.
What is included in the Hamilton Island package price?+
